In 1971, a stampede was busting out of Dearborn. The redesigned Ford Mustang Mach 1, presented in shocking Grabber Lime paint. The new steeds wheelbase went up an inch, overall length increased 2.1 inches, and weight increased by nearly 200 pounds. Expanding the pony cars size was necessary to make room up front for even more engine in 1971. Under the long, twin scooped, Ram-air induction NACA (NASA) hood was the 385-series big-block V-8, displacing 429 cubic inches with over 370 horsepower. The Ram-air option also included a two-tone hood paint treatment in matte black coordinated to the color of the Mach 1 decals and striping. Ram Air-equipped Mustangs of this generation also came equipped with twist-style, chromeplated hood lock pins to finish off this "Monster Mach 1.
