Porsche is a German car manufacturer dedicated to high-performance sports cars, SUVs and sedans. Founded in 1931, the company originally offered only development and consulting work. In fact, it was Porsche that came up with the original designs for the Volkswagen Beetle! After producing its first car in 1939, Porsche eventually made its way to motor racing with their 550 Spyder (made famous by James Dean, among others). Porsche used its success to launch the Porsche 911 in 1963, which became its best-known model, and remains one of the best-selling cars in Porsche's lineup. Porsche is now under shared ownership with Volkswagen, and they maintain a close relationship.
